During dental school, Dr. Johnson received the Southwest Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Award for distinguished achievement, the General Dentistry Program Award in Recognition of Excellence, the Academy of Dental Materials Award, and the Quintessence Award, in recognition of academic achievement.
Dr. Johnson enlisted in the United States Airforce upon graduation from Dental School and completed his post graduate training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at San Antonio Military Medical Center.
SERVICE AND CAREER PATH
Dr. Johnson served in the USAF while he was stationed at Barksdale AFB from 2014-2018. During this time he served as an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. He was also a faculty member for the Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency program. Dr. Johnson received the Educator of the Year Award in 2016 for the Air Force Global Strike Command bases, and in 2018 he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for outstanding service to the United States, as Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 2d Medical Group, Barksdale AFB.
After leaving the Air Force, Dr. Johnson spent time in private practice before accepting a position as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Midwestern University Dental Institute in Glendale, AZ. He later accepted the Program Director position at the Banner University Medical Center Phoenix – Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency. He trained Oral Surgery residents and practiced full scope Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery during this time covering two level 1 trauma centers in the Phoenix area. He has a passion for education and has taught at all educational levels in his career.
PATIENT SAFETY
Dr. Johnson is committed to patient safety and maintains active certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Johnson Oral Surgery Knoxville is an Ambulatory Surgery Facility exceeding the safety requirements of a standard dental office. One example of this is the emergency backup power system in place to support the facility.
Dr. Johnson’s clinical interests include: Full Mouth Reconstruction (All-on-X, Hybrid Dentures), Routine Oral Surgical Services (including third molars/wisdom teeth, extractions, and dental implants), Anesthesia (IV Sedation/Conscious Sedation), Corrective Jaw Surgery (Orthognathic Surgery), Bone Grafting and Cysts and Tumors of the Jaws. He has extensive experience with full-arch (Fixed Implant Dentures).
BOARD CERTIFICATION AND RECOGNITIONS
Dr. Johnson is Board Certified by both the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology.
He has been honored by his induction as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) which is one of the highest honors a surgeon of any specialty can receive.
SERVICE TO OUR COMMUNITY
Dr. Johnson continues to attend professional meetings and continuing education in order to remain current in the latest advances in Oral and Facial Surgery. Dr. Johnson provides free Continuing Education classes to general dentists and other specialists in his community. He hosts lectures monthly in his office teaching others about surgery, dental implants, office emergencies, pathology and other areas of interest. He is an active member of the Academy of General Dentistry, and a PACE AGD-approved CE provider for the State of Tennessee.
