DENTAL IMPLANTS

A natural tooth consists of a root and a crown. If you compare natural teeth to a dental implant, you’ll see they have the same basic parts. Both have a crown (the visible part used to chew food). Both have a root that holds the tooth securely under the gum and is anchored into the jaw. The difference is that the implant is made of titanium. When you lose a tooth, you lose both the root and the crown. To replace the tooth, first a dental implant is placed within the bone. A crown is then placed on the dental implant once it has healed and integrated with the bone.
REASONS TO CONSIDER DENTAL IMPLANTS:
- Replaces a missing tooth or multiple teeth and does not involve adjacent teeth like a dental bridge.
- Functions similar to that of a natural tooth
- Long term success rate (once integrated and maintained with proper oral hygiene)
- Esthetically pleasing
- Easy to clean and maintain due to no connection to adjacent teeth. Dental implants can be flossed just like natural teeth.
